About Us

Andrea Warner; Founder

My name Is Andrea Warner, dog enthusiast, pack leader, and owner/operator of Dog Day Afternoon. I specialize in enhancing the lives of dogs by providing a top quality pet care solution for dog owners who need help meeting the needs of their pet. Whether you chose our coaching program or private walks, I offer strong leadership and guidance while encouraging dogs to flourish in their natural environment.

Growing up I was very fortunate to have had parents who encouraged me to have pets: always 2 dogs, numerous cats (including rescues and strays), usually a few budgie birds, fish, and the occasional turtle or iguana. Some of my fondest memories are of me playing in the neighborhood and always having my dog by my side, as well as sleeping with at least 1 or 2 cats curled up in my bed each night. Animals have fulfilled and enriched my life in ways that only other animal lovers will understand. They provide unconditional love, affection, excitement, joy and support; they effortlessly keep me focused on living in the moment.

Throughout my years as an avid dog lover and dog owner, I had noticed that almost everyone has a natural and unconditional love for their pets. They want them to be happy, healthy and well-adjusted within the family and with other dogs. And most humans truly feel like their pets are helping them fulfill their needs. However, it seemed clear to me that what is not instinctive for most people is an understanding and practice of pack leadership and dog psychology.

Dog Day Afternoon

So how did Dog Day Afternoon come to fruition?

Having had a fulfilling career in travel, sales, coaching and eventually management, I wanted to use my skill set in communicating with people as well as my intuitive understanding of how animals see the world into a thriving full-time business.

Two things happened for me simultaneously in 2008: I lost Sam, my beloved golden lab and companion of 15 years, and I became incredibly inspired and excited by the work of my mentor, Cesar Milan, “The Dog Whisperer”. Cesar was practicing and having phenomenal success with his approach to canines from a dog psychology perspective – a theory I had always instinctively used with the dogs in my life. He confirmed for me what I had always felt and practiced in the animal world: – that using energy and body language was the most effective and primal tool to communicate with animals as well as using a fulfillment formula of “Exercise, Discipline, and Affection”, in that order to raise and develop a happy and balanced dog. I had always been aware of and very “tuned in” to dogs, but Cesar’s philosophy of “the balanced pack”, with the human as pack leader, enabled me to take my understanding to the next level, practice what I was learning from watching him and reading his books, to eventually open my own business. It was with much enthusiasm and passion that I started Dog Day Afternoon in 2009. I wanted to share my knowledge and experience of how dogs see the world to help educate pet owners on how to fulfill their dog’s needs. I was motivated to help anyone who wanted to increase that special bond with their pet.

I was blessed in 2010 when one of my bucket list dreams came true. During his recent tour of North America, I met Cesar Millan several times. Following my passion to help as many canines as possible I was eager to let him know that as soon as his Dog Psychology Academy of Training in Los Angeles is open, that I want to be one of first in line to become certified in his new school.

Now my goals are to keep my dogs and clients thriving and growing, and to continue to increase the happiness of as many dogs as I can here in the Lower Mainland. I am eager to assist in educating humans on how to fulfill the needs of their trusted canines from a more primal and instinctual point of view. I am excited to continue to expand my skills, business and thriving community of “dog people”, and I hope that I can also help YOU to achieve a happier dog, and a happier life!

Reading my Testimonials will confirm that I am achieving my goal today. I truly am working in my “dream job”, and am very grateful to the dogs, wonderful clients and community of friends and “dog people” who have helped me build my business.

My clients say that I am a calm assertive pack leader who provides exceptional customer service while helping their dogs gain a more balanced, healthy ,and happy life. Clients of Dog Day Afternoon see direct results from using our services and notice that their dogs are more relaxed and fulfilled after coming home from a walk with a calm assertive pack leader.
